Our story
The roots of this company go back long before the first blueprint.

At thirteen I spent my summers working alongside my uncle in the drywall trade, learning firsthand what it takes to build a home from the inside out. Those early years laid a foundation of hard work and respect for the craft that has shaped everything since.
The path wasn’t a straight line. I worked across a range of industries: AT&T cable contracting, AM/FM and television broadcasting, IT contracting, and certified automation systems programming. Each chapter added technical knowledge and a way of solving problems that most builders don’t carry onto a job site.

Then came 2008. A government broadcasting contract ended and I moved into healthcare, and quickly found the pay wasn’t what most people assume. On a tight budget, I stood in a grocery store aisle and realized a bag of Oreo cookies was a luxury I couldn’t justify. It was a small moment, but it hit hard. Right there I decided to advance myself and never look back.
At 27 I enrolled in college, and in 2014 I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
That same year I joined Rick Shipley Custom Homes, one of the most respected custom builders in the DFW area and a D Home Best Builder year after year. For the next twelve years I apprenticed under Rick, learning the art and discipline of building luxury homes to the highest standard. When Rick retired, I stepped out on my own, carrying forward the same commitment to craftsmanship, integrity and detail.
Today we build custom homes across Rockwall, Heath and the greater DFW area, with forty-five homes and 341,143 square feet behind us, and the best still ahead.

Where we’ve built
Buffalo Creek, Fairways of Heath Crossing, The Sanctuary, Ridge Lakes of Heath, The Renaissance and The Providence in Heath. Wimberly Place in Allen, Craig Ranch in McKinney, University Heights in Dallas, and private acreage around Heath, Rockwall and Poetry.
Some of those houses were published or awarded. Where that work was Rick’s company or a designer’s, the credit goes to them, and the awards page says so.

How we build
We come from a legacy of service.
Where we come from
My family’s roots are in the farming communities around Ennis, Texas, carried forward through military service members in more than one war, decorated peace officers and firefighters. That upbringing didn’t come with a manual, but it came with a standard: show up, do the work, take care of people, and never cut corners on what matters.
Presence
I still carry the tools and supplies to keep a clean, organized job site, not because I have to, but because the thirteen-year-old laborer never left. Whether it’s a typical load of three to five custom homes or the ten job sites we had running after COVID, I visit every site daily. I know my contractors by name, I know their families, and I know their work.
Trade partners
The most expensive name on a bid sheet doesn’t guarantee the best result. We invest in relationships with skilled tradesmen who care about a project the way we do, who take pride in their craft, and who make it right when the real world shows up. Because it does.
Materials
We don’t claim perfection. Stone, wood and steel all have to be mined, milled, cut, sanded and refined before they become something worth building with. Our job is to take those raw products and refine them into something that will stand for generations.
Communication
We run every job in JobTread, which keeps trade partners, designers and homeowners connected through every phase. Every decision, change and milestone is documented and shared, because transparency isn’t a policy, it’s how we were raised.
When it goes wrong
You’ll hear it from us first. Not buried in an email, not hidden behind a finished wall: face to face, on the job site, with a plan to make it right. Recently a past client hired us for an addition and the budget started climbing past what made sense. I told him it shouldn’t cost that much and restructured the job to bring it back in line, even though it cut into my own margin.
Every house
Every project is an honor, an invitation to put our name and our hands into something that will outlast us. An estate on twenty-three acres and a thoughtfully designed family home get the same commitment.
